Poems: My Turtle

I

Have you ever looked a turtle in the face?

II

I have,

and I often see the turtle looking right back at me.

III

Is the turtle thinking,

“Where is your shell?”

IV

Turtles become much more important

when looked at, in the eye.

V

I can’t make turtle soup out of a friend.

VI

But try to pick my turtle up,

and I only hope

not to become finger filet.
